In an odd turn of events, the Corvette breaking was double good luck.

Not only did it avoid getting crashed, the fix was popping off the axle nuts and greasing the splines. That was a win I needed.

How GM managed to design the car with the whole axle nut issue and then to repeat it with the C6 AND C7 is beyond me. When I started seeing the threads pop up in the C7 section of Corvetteforum, I was pretty blown away.

Oh, these weren’t loose at all. The spindle itself can get rusty, and it binds I guess. I took the passenger side off and sprayed the spindle down with grease, and torqued the nut back down. I couldn’t get the driver's side off, so I just made sure it was torqued to at least 120, then left it alone.

Is it possible that the driver’s side has left-hand threads?

...Since they are interchangeable with the other side, maybe?
